1. The process of the investigation

Think back to your DEL investigation. How did you go about searching?

Do this survey about your strategies and compare your responses to others in the group by reviewing the results.

if you want to expand your search strategies  refer back to C-DELTA curriculum Module 2 Unit 1 Pages 17-30 to see examples and information about other search engines as well as advanced searching strategies.

2. Search engines

It's quite likely that most of the group used Google for their searches. Globally Google holds the largest global market share amongst search engines.

What do you think the risk could be of using Google as a search engine?

3. Privacy and tracking online

Let's think about what we do when we are participating digitally. Here are two common issues about online privacy that you might want to consider.

Listening and tracking
Is Facebook listening to us?

The image above comes from an article from 2016 If you search this question you will find more recent and varied responses to this question. Snopes (the popular fact-checking site) reports this as "mostly false" but clearly there are enough other privacy concerns concerning Facebook that this is a question people keep coming back to.
Is Google tracking me?

The chances are if you use google maps and have location sharing enabled that Google is tracking your movements. To see if Google is capturing your location history go to Google maps, open the menu and select "my Timeline".

4. Evaluating online content

How good do you think you are at assessing the expertise, authority, and trustworthiness of online sources?

Watch this video from WebWise on "what is false information".

5. Identifying fake news

Try your hand at identifying fake news.

Here are three  Fake news games/ activities. Some with different levels so you can play them with kids too. Have a go at one to see how good you are at identifying what's real and what's not.
