What is the difference between teaching and facilitation?

What are the challenges you might expect in an online class as compared to a face to face session?

Facilitation is the process of providing the necessary support and guidance to learners while they create or apply their knowledge to achieve specific goals/objectives.
The main difference between teaching and facilitation is the teacher's level of involvement in the teaching and learning process. Teaching is more teacher-focused, whereas facilitation is more learner-focused.

Teaching is providing knowledge while facilitation is guiding students to acquire this knowledge

Challenges in an online classroom includes;

lack of expertise in using online resources/ platforms

lack of knowledge in  tackling  technical issues encountered in the classroom

Maintaining the attention of the students throughout the lesson

Facilitation is providing  guidance for the students, where students role is greater than the lecturers. Lecturer acts as a mentor and students take the leadership of their own learning.

Teaching can be considered as imparting knowledge whereas facilitation is assisting students to understand and uptake that knowledge. In Latter case, the involvement of students are considerably more compared to teaching.

challenges - student engagement and motivation

Facilitation is guiding or assisting students in their learning where as teaching is to explain or impart knowledge to students.

We will face internet connections, such as getting disconnected or lagging, students being online on platform but not so much of participation and might not be present on he other end.

Thank you all for your posts,
Weaving in your definitions and challenges, Sinaau differentiates between the teacher-centred and student-centred approaches, while Reesha mentions the subtle change in role of the teacher from dispenser to guide.
Saeed and Shina also mention the change in responsibility  and this image from Lumen Learning helps to see the proportion and instructional models that show how we shift from Site (bricks and Mortar)  to Service (Flexible, Online, convenience)

I also agree with Visama and Muna about the challenges faced in our context related to connectivitiy and motivating students.
