Donna's Scenario

  • Donna's scenario seems to be a response to strengths and opportunities as it speaks about students using technology to acquire skills to improve their job prospects - not to play with technology toys. I do believe senior management would support Donna's case because it entails the mission that any educational institution should have, which is to create the right learning environment in which the students will be prepared for the future and ultimately become productive citizens. They would support it because Donna's scenario clearly states that learning intentions would need to be properly defined before engaging in any investment and to even perhaps use available resources. Students would support this case because the benefits would be for them. They would be the ones who would be appropriately equipped and would thrive in the real world. Some of the changes that would be needed to carry out this vision would perhaps affect the teachers who might not feel comfortable or versed with the use of educational technology. It could also affect them because they might have to undertake new training at the school's expense or at their own expense. It might also affect the students and parent if perhaps an increased cost might have to be added to their fees to equip the classrooms/learning environments. The main impact this vision would have on learning is that it would be more aligned with the real digital skills students need when they venture out into higher education or into the working field. Teachers would have need to revamp their pedagogical skills to properly balance the use of educational technology to teach students the expected content. Lecturers or teachers would need to be more comfortable in using technology to share and facilitate content. For some lecturers it would be an easier shift while for others it will be more challenging especially if educational technology was never a part of their pedagogical training. With regards to the organizational structure it would be good to have supervisors who have some training in educational technology and understand the principles of digital education. If such a vision were implemented then the institutional reputation would be one of where technology-enabled learning takes place in preparation for a technology-enabled university or work place.
